Webinar for Malaysian Pharmacists on Post-Pandemic Health Challenges and Nutrition

Embracing the New Frontier of Mitochondrial Health and the Heart

The world of healthcare is ever-evolving, and in an effort to stay on top of the latest advancements in healthcare, over 200 pharmacists and industry experts from across eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, predominately from Malaysia, gathered for an engaging and informative webinar.

The webinar highlighted the latest evidence-backed research revealing the link between cell mitochondrial dysfunction and the fight against post-pandemic symptoms including fatigue, muscle weakness and cardiac manifestations. Australia’s Leading Integrative Cardiologist, Dr Walker presented a case for a need for early intervention and an integrated approach to diet, lifestyle, exercise, nutrition and supporting production of antioxidants and minerals naturally occurring in the body to support patients suffering from post-pandemic symptoms.

Recent data from Malaysia Ministry showed that 66 per cent of COVID-19 patients suffer from Long COVID symptoms such as fatigue, exertional dyspnoea, insomnia and anxiety. These conditions result from a complication of COVID-19 infection on the function of various organs in an individual’s body.[i]

Dr Walker educated attendees on the link between virus infection, chronic inflammation, and mitochondrial health and shared insights into scientific backed research supporting the efficacy of certain nutrients that may support patients suffering from symptoms of Long-COVID.

Mitochondrial health is critical to overall health, and if mitochondrial function is impaired, the cells cannot work properly. Research shows a link between COVID-19 directly impacting the mitochondria so cells cannot support the function of vital organs.[ii]

Research published in October 2022 in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, found that ubiquinol, given at 100 mg twice a day for 30 days with mountain spa rehabilitation in post-pandemic patients supported the regeneration of mitochondrial health, and improved other post-pandemic symptoms including pulmonary function.

Throughout the webinar, participants were highly engaged, making the most of the opportunity to learn from Dr Walker. The Q&A session was a particular highlight, as attendees posed thoughtful questions about the science behind integrative treatment strategies and the efficacy of naturally occurring antioxidants and minerals, including ubiquinol.
